Our Story

Curbside Queens (originally 2 Queens, 1 Driveway) was born out of the early days of the pandemic lockdown 2020, at a time when community morale and engagement was hitting a low. Cherry Lemonade and GiGi Gabor floated the idea of driveway shows, utilizing Gigi’s SUV and a boombox, as a way to celebrate during a pride month devastated by a global pandemic. What was originally thought to be a fun thing for 2 or 3 weekends quickly turned into 19 weeks, 8000 miles, and 88 shows all across Maine.

2021 brought a clearer view of how long the pandemic was going to last, and a renewed push from GiGi and Cherry to spread the joy and celebration of the Queer experience and the art of Drag  with the people of Maine. A branding shift and one bus purchase later, Curbside Queens and the legend known as Peg were born! Peg, a 2008 ford shuttle bus with 300,000 miles, was purchased private sale in MA, was retrofitted for performance and painted pink (by hand!) in Gigi’s parents driveway. Gigi and Cherry elevated the show with a new sound system, costume and prop inclusion, and a longer format to deliver the highest quality possible. 2021 saw 85 shows over 20 weeks.

2022 brought the biggest (and best) growth to CQ to date! We bought a new bus, Peg Too, and added a rotating cast of 8 of Maine’s best Drag performers. We started working with businesses and venues to bring the art of drag to a broader audience across the state!

2023 is shaping up to be a spectacular year! We have added the fabulous Geo Neptune to our cast, and are working on bringing our larger format shows farther into the state of Maine (keep an eye out Lubec). Follow our social media pages for the most current updates!
